No need to be either pompous or a political activist to say something your grandma should have told you about depressing workplaces. Plus when you say, This is like, “Hey doctor, I’m depressed. Could you help me out?”It sounds like you are confusing a medical doctor with a pusher at the park.
I do agree, however, that depression need not revolve around external circumstances, but unfortunately, it is the writer(s)of the article itself that make references to these circumstances in referencing “absenteeism at work”. As you seem to suggest, if we really want to speak seriously about depression — and not just do some marketing — then these circumstantial type of references should disappear altogether. It is not without interest though, to ask why they were included from the beginning.
Finally, if there are those working in physiological research who cannot handle what any grandma knows, then I suggest they either change occupations or learn to write better.
Cheers,
S
