Why use either client or patient? Of course, one could use one or the other, but in the end, ethically, I would pose both labels are suspect and an abuse of power when working on mental issues with someone. Personally, I look at anyone using such labels in the field of the ‘psyche’ as naive. But more to the point, why do psychologists have to be insured so much to practice if this abuse of power were not systemic? In the end, my advice to anyone seeking help is that if either are used, you are either at Home Depot or General Hospital, and taken a wrong turn somewhere.
