Yes, blacks, slaves in general, were considered people in US slavery. Unlike other periods or geographies, like ancient Greece, slaves in the New World were considered people, they were supposed to have souls, and all the rest. Unfortunately, the fact that they were consider 'human' did not make their conditions any better. In fact, it made it worse, since now as human, they were considered inferior. Just a heads up./ $
